Confessions of an Automationeer, Part 59: Polishing the Breed
Now that the 4.21 version of UE4 Automation has finally migrated to the public branch, I can finally show you how much better it looks and feels. While the car and engine design rooms look like they came straight out of the Seventies, I am pleased to know that other eras for these backdrops are planned. More significantly, the reworked lighting has finally made everything look much better, especially with the revised color editing system. In addition, a few new bodies have been added, while some of the existing ones were finally fixed, and every engine sounds much better than before, regardless of its configuration. Last but not least, the overall balance of the game has been improved significantly.
This was a big update, taking up several gigabytes of space, but all of it was downloaded and installed in a matter of hours. Eventually I started the game once again, and my patience was rewarded with a much better gameplay experience overall. To prove it, I designed another test car, one from the same era as the last test build shown on this blog, but faster and more upmarket.
An example of a car made in UE4 Automation 4.21. It is obvious that the revised lighting has made everything look better - but this is only the tip of the iceberg.
There is more to come in the weeks ahead, but for now, us Automationeers can feel free to savor the superior visuals and gameplay experience provided by the latest update.
